I tune in when South Korea 🇰🇷 is in the World Cup, rewatch classic La Liga highlights, and cheer for EPL teams depending on my mood. This is mainly because I don’t have an emotional or physical connection to the celebrated clubs. However, when I heard about the proposed @nycfc stadium opening in Queens by 2027, just a stone’s throw away from Flushing and Citi Field, I was genuinely excited and intrigued to learn more about the club and, more importantly, about @lostemplados12, a barra (or ultra if you’re European) that has been supporting the New York City team since 2015. Los Templados, comprised of members from 🇨🇴🇪🇨🇲🇽🇸🇻🇬🇹🇵🇷 and beyond, felt like the embodiment of Queens. It was like taking a stroll down Junction Boulevard during my adolescent years growing up in the area—diverse, vocal, and passionate. New York City is a transit city, constantly evolving with new groups of immigrants. As more South and Central American settlers establish homes and foundations in NYC, their cheering culture becomes part of NYCFC, and I’m now thrilled to be a part of it, too.
