@hypeart: It’s no question that Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the most celebrated artists, with his works and signature style continuing to pervade popular culture, museum exhibitions, and more. Now, another impressive self-portrait piece from the artist is headed to auction. Titled ‘Self-Portrait as a Heel (Part Two),’ the artwork was crafted in 1982 while Basquiat was living in Los Angeles and is one of the few self-portraits done by him. The piece was made for his first West Coast exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in LA.
Appearing in shades of green, black, beige, blue, and more, 'Self-Portrait as a Heel (Part Two)’ stands at eight feet tall and shines with Basquiat’s signature contemporary and neo-expressionism style. The artwork is set to auction at @サザビーズ and will be the star of the auction house’s Contemporary Evening Auction, taking place on November 15.
Serving as one of the most valuable self-portraits to hit the market, the piece is set to fetch an estimated $40-60 million USD.
