In February 1985, the NBA sent a letter to Nike informing them that Michael Jordan’s ‘red and black NIKE basketball shoes’ violated the league’s uniform rules, ‘on or around October 18, 1984.’ 📝 @nicekicksvault

The letter created a Mandela Effect due to the ambiguity of the shoes mentioned in the letter + a 1985 Nike television ad that insinuated the banned shoes were the Air Jordan 1 “Black/Red” ❌ @nicekickshoops

The pair MJ wore was in fact a “Black/Red” Nike Air Ship PE with MJ actually debuting the AJ1 “Chicago” on November 17, 1984 followed by the AJ1 “Black/Red” during the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1985 👀
