🐾While fossilized bones provide important information, tracks like these are crucial for understanding how extinct animals lived and behaved. Fossils without bones are known as “trace fossils.” Trace fossils are remains of an organism’s activity—such as imprints, burrows, or fossilized poop—instead of its body, and often develop in environments that don’t otherwise produce skeletal fossils.
