‘The Bikeriders,’ starring Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Michael Shannon, and Jodie Comer as members of a Midwestern motorcycle club, drove director Jeff Nichols into a whole new world.

For 20 years, Nichols shied away from the idea of the movie, inspired by Danny Lyon’s 1968 photography book of the same name. But he’s proud of the final film, which is due out this December. "I think it does what I’ve set out to do, which is just dip you in this world and this feeling, the same feeling I got from these photos,” he tells VF.
