For example “When I get this job” vs “If I get this job” or in my case maybe “When I win this fight” vs “If I win this fight”

When sounds inevitable and forceful and like it’s a predetermined outcome. I can appreciate the positive thought processes off manifesting with the notion that you WILL it to happen.

however I would like to point out that

IF I win may allow a realistic flexibility because the truth is we cannot win them all.

So are we setting ourselves up for a heavier emotional backlash if we can’t be realistic about potential outcomes?

Does IF takeaway from determination? Or does it say, I know what I want but it may not happen but either way I will be ok.

I personally have found myself using both at different points of my life and career. I will note that WHEN set me up for major mental and emotional crisis when I put everything I had into something and still fell short.

But IF……gave me mental and emotional flexibility and a realistic outlook that served me better when I failed to reach goals I worked tirelessly at achieving.

Is it toxic to be comfortable saying you accept that you truly never know the outcome in life.

Curious if anyone else has had these thoughts running through their head?!?
