Worn in the Bohemian Rhapsody video in 1975, Freddie Mercury’s silver snake bangle was the subject of rapid-fire bidding at #SothebysLondon tonight, exceeding its high estimate within the first few seconds. The sought-after piece sold for £698,500—a record for a piece of jewellery belonging to a rockstar, and almost 100 times its estimate. Mercury continued to wear the traditional Victorian-style piece time and again during the mid-1970s.
