This date was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the last remaining Tasmanian Tiger (also known as the thylacine) at Hobart Zoo in 1936. It’s a sombre reminder of what could befall other iconic Australian species if we don’t act now.   Taronga’s programs for threatened wildlife help a myriad of animals. Our activities range from breeding and releasing endangered species, to critical habitat restoration and nurturing Australian school children to become future conservationists.
