As thousands gathered in Washington D.C. on Saturday for the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington event, a racist mass shooting took place at Dollar General in Jacksonville, Florida.

The fatal shooting was carried out by a white man in his early 20s who authorities say "hated Black people."

The shooter opened fire at the Dollar General shortly after being turned away from Edward Waters University, a historically Black college just a few blocks away, by campus security.

Now, the Jacksonville community is grappling with the heartbreak and the college is haunted by the “what ifs.”

“Something has to be done about the legacy of racism in this city, and how it still lingers so strongly throughout the city,” one resident said.
