Anyone who’s researched period poverty knows 64% of women struggle to afford products they need annually & hundreds of thousands of students leave class early or miss school (1/5 menstruating students in the USA) because of a lack of access to products. 1/5 women in OK & KY experience period poverty. 1/6 women in TX, NY & MI experience this. 1/7 women in WY, CA & IL. With girls starting their periods as young as 9 or 10 yrs old & this being a monthly struggle, imagine how much school they may miss by college! College, where 14.2% of menstruating students experienced period poverty in the last year & 10% of menstruating students experience it every month. Add the reality that 86% of women have started their periods in public without the supplies they need. This is a crisis. #PeriodPoverty is a real, devastating issue that creates gender disparity & inequality that can last for decades. Putting a stop to period poverty increases school attendance, recuperates lost work hours & is simply the right thing to do.  That’s where our next move as partners @unionheritage comes in. We are thrilled to announce our investment in @goauntflow. Founded by Claire Coder, Aunt Flow is on a mission to make the world better for people with periods. They are outfitting restrooms with patented free-vend period product dispensers — rust-resistant, hold 5x the product & reload in just 30sec — that allow businesses to offer 100% organic cotton tampons & pads for free. Again, toilet paper is offered for free. Tampons should be too. Aunt Flow has implemented free period products in almost 30,000 bathrooms & successfully advocated for access across the country. Last year HB162 was signed into law in Utah, making it the first state to pass a law requiring free period products in all school bathrooms in all K-12 schools.
