This retrospective, “SOUND AND TIME”, is also the inaugural exhibition of our newly founded M WOODS (People’s Park) in Chengdu. This special exhibition is both a continuation and evolution of Sakamoto’s inaugural showcase in China, titled "Ryuichi Sakamoto: seeing sound hearing time," previously hosted at M WOODS (Hutong), Beijing, in 2021, signifying the most comprehensive survey of his artistic oeuvre up to that date. Following the success of the exhibition Sakamoto, alongside his collaborators and curators, decided to develop "SOUND AND TIME" as an advancement from the preceding showcase in Beijing. This new exhibition aimed to conceive a distinctive and adapted large-scale retrospective in Chengdu, encompassing the major key works of Sakamoto's artistic journey. The exhibition brings together the fundamental concepts of sound, time, and installation art that Sakamoto diligently explored over the course of his career. An additional highlight of the exhibition is the premiere unveiling of TIME-déluge (2023), a site-specific installation specially created for this occasion.
