First I shared with them the floral examples I made using the watercolor kit to use as inspiration. I then taught how to paint leaves and how to add more depth to the green by adding blues. Adding blues makes the color richer. You can mix it on the palette or add it to the green after you paint it and blend it in using your brush. I explained how to leave negative space if you want something white. You don’t really paint white in watercolor so plan ahead and leave the parts of the page white that you want to be white. You can also add color and details to that section later after the surrounding areas dry. I also showed them how to use a wet on wet technique to add color into the center of flowers. Dab a color into wet paint in the center to make dots that bleed beautifully! What a joy it was to teach these techniques. The students really loved painting using the Koi Water Color kit and picked up the lessons so easily. They made the most gorgeous florals - aren’t they great?!
