In this solo, I revisited feelings from the past with the loss of the mL studio in 2020. It was an overwhelming time where I wasn’t able to really process my feelings till much later on. I think my body sometimes has the ability to say more than my words can. I see this moment of honesty as reliving many memories, moving through residual pain, and honoring that time as I continue forth. For deeper context, In covid, the lockdown put a halt on students coming to the studio. As a business we tried to keep afloat by utilizing our company savings. When it wasn’t enough, we then asked our community to support us through a fundraiser. The response was overwhelming. And even though we reached our goal, the second wave of lockdowns continued longer than we could sustain the business. With the world at unprecedented uncertainty, we were forced to make a decision: to stay open with no future outcome in sight or to close and cut our lease. Ultimately we chose to close our doors, with the weight too heavy to continue trying through that difficult time. We tried to restart, but with large debt looming over the business, it felt impossible. I was really at a loss mentally and emotionally, and didn’t know how to proceed forward. At some point through the pandemic, I lost the will to keep mL going. Regardless of the outcome, I’ve learned a lot over the past few years. I’ve made it this far, coming out a stronger person. I’m proud of myself and of my resilience to keep forth and to keep faith. To all who’ve supported me throughout all these years dancing, and to all the mL famLy out there, you are truly appreciated and I can’t thank you enough. Thank you to all who watch this through; I am nervous about sharing it, but it’s time that I do. I hope this strikes up a memory in time where mL positively impacted your life in some way, shape, or form.
