This week on Behind the Views: Itzel Garrido (@itzelgarr). For Itzel’s quinceañera, instead of a traditional party, she was gifted a trip along with her first camera to document her travels. She immediately fell in love with travel photography, and the rest is history. “The excitement and joy that practicing photography gives me has made me realize that it’s something I love, and I want to share that beauty with more people,” she recently shared with T+L.

Photography truly clicked for Itzel during a stargazing session in Chihuahua, Mexico. “I saw the most stars I had ever seen. I had my camera and tripod with me, so I decided to try astrophotography for the first time,” she says. “I took several shots, and eventually, I photographed the galactic center of the Milky Way. I almost cried after doing a silly dance to celebrate.”

Itzel’s approach to shooting focuses on color and light. “To achieve the combination of warm and cool tones, I usually plan shoots during my trips for sunrises and sunsets. I always have a general idea in mind, but once I'm there, I adjust my approach depending on the light and weather conditions to create beautiful images of the places I visit,” she says.

In Itzel’s go-to gear bag, you’ll find Canon FT QL and Canon 6D Mark II cameras, 24-105mm and 14mm lenses, DJI Mavic Air 2, a tripod, and ND filters.
