It is said that here you can see the most genji-botaru fireflies out of anywhere in Eastern Japan. At their peak in mid-June, the Tatsuno Firefly festival is also held here. Thanks to the hard work and effort of locals who preserve the fireflies’ natural environment, you can see the countless beautiful lights of these bugs illuminating the night. *This is a photo from a previous year. This year’s festival is set to be held from June 10th to 18th at Hotaru Dōyō Park. For details, please contact the Tatsuno Town Tourism Association. *Fireflies are irritated by strong light. When taking pictures, refrain from flash photography. Also, during the height of the festival, tripods and monopods are prohibited to ease congestion.
