Glaad continues to inspire me- especially now, when an unprecedented number of anti-lgbtq+ legislation is in effect. I’ve never understood why people in our country waste so much time attacking folks for just wanting to be who they are, and love who they are. (Especially when many haters are “Christian”, because ya know, love ya neighbor as yourself?!) The LGBTQIA+ community is one of joy, PRIDE, activism, love, self expression- tbh it’s made up of the most resilient, creative, and POWERFUL people I’ve ever had the honor of meeting & loving. If we are not fighting FOR LGBTQIA+ rights, safety, and visibility - we are in opposition to their lives. 2023 is a record year for hate. There have been 543 bills proposed, 70 which have already passed, that impact healthcare, student athletics, the military, incarceration, and education for trans citizens. 45% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, and that percentage is higher for trans & non-binary youth & LGBTQ youth of color reported higher rates than their white peers. (@trevorproject ). The American government, particularly FLORIDA, is targeting these kids, saying “nope, you don’t get to be who you want to be”. Why spend time hating and endangering our neighbors (especially our youth) when we are collectively facing issues like the climate crisis?! Like- I just don’t get it. It’s distraction, it’s fear mongering for ALL the wrong “issues”! Let’s use our energy to love, lift up, and help the world thrive! I’m so grateful to @glaad .
