In January 1970, at a time when racial tensions throughout the country were at a high, Jean Bell became the first African American woman to grace a Playboy cover. An icon in her own right, Bell went on to inspire the alias “Jeannie Bell", used by Vivica A. Fox's character in Kill Bill.
