It’s been over a decade since I last competed, yet some of my greatest memories I have held on to are those with my friends, who are also my competitors from around the world. What could have easily created a lack of unity was the exact thing that brought us together—our differences. Somehow, even with our language barriers, we all speak the same language. One of unity, respect, and peace. This trip reminded me for the first time in a very long time, how truly special our sport is. The moments and memories we shared and created together every single day and night, the respect for one another, was perhaps on a level I’ve never seen, felt, or experienced in my life. The moments of jet lag and exhaustion which almost always led to us laughing so hard we were almost crying. The moments of figuring out who had the right currency or card to pay for the snacks at 7-11 that day. The moments of trying to understand how we could help one another in that very moment. So much more to say and share but for now, I think these photos will speak for themselves. Thank you President Mr. Watanabe, Japanese Gymnastics, and the FIG for bringing us all together and reminding us all how special our sport is, and how it can, in fact, unite us all.
