The answers are not out there in the world under a rock or in a coffee shop, but inside, under this tangled network of neural pathways, within this overly nervous system. It was that middle of the night voice – you know the one. The one that says stuff like “your body is aching because you’re definitely dying” or “you left the doors unlocked and someone is breaking into your car.” But I liked the “go back inside” message, it has value, and it’s always true. I wrote it down and I’ve been looking back at it now and then. Lately I’ve been allowing space for my fears without giving into them. It might be akin to marvelling at a scorpion while remaining a safe distance. It’s not that I don’t feel all the same things that so often set off my alarms, but rather, my practice has been to approach them differently. Learning to create space between the fear and my reaction. I believe good things are happening. Most things are out of our control, but mindset makes a difference. And that’s the second thing. I’m writing this down and sharing it here incase you need to hear that your fears don’t have to control you. A scorpion in the desert may set off some alarms instinctually, but we can keep a safe distance. (If you’re curious, I took this photo with a UV light. Scorpions glow because they have fluorescent chemicals in their exoskeleton. My friend Marzipan showed me that this was possible with some amazing photos he took on his phone.)」4月28日 3時51分 - andrewknapp
