Maratus clupeatus are now out and about around the Perth area and theyre shaking their butts any chance they get!! The common name for this Peacock is “Shield-Carrrying Peacock Spider” but most of us maratus nuts just call them “clupes”. Youll notice that the second half of the reel has a greener looking morph of the same species which is really nice.

Just to be clear these spiders are doing a mating dance in an attempt to woo a female into courtship, they are in no danger (well unless the female has had enough of the silly dancing and decides to eat him). This was all filmed in their natural environment.

I originally filmed some of there dances on a very cloudy day and even though it was good footage it lacked the sparkle that only full sunlight will give, so i headed back and spent another full day laying in tick infested sands to film as much as i could😅 I really hope you guys enjoy this footage as it takes ALOT more effort then getting a stacked dance photo.
