Memphis-area officials voted to reinstate Justin J. Pearson to the Tennessee Legislature. Rep. Justin Jones was reinstated on Monday.

"Nashville thought they could silence democracy," Pearson said. "But they didn't know the Shelby County Commission ... and its fearless leaders."

Pearson and Jones, who are Black, were expelled last Thursday in unprecedented votes in the state House that drew national attention to racial and political dynamics in the state’s legislative body.
