As a Finn growing up in Australia I’m so grateful to my parents and Finnish roots for the gifts of joy that were imparted upon me. I have always been a Finn at heart and I’m really starting to understand why. My deep connection and love of nature which was passed down to me by my parents is one of my biggest happiness keys. I may have traded the Finnish forest for the Aussie beaches but it is in nature I find my solace. The ocean, and any body of water, has been my happy place from a very young age and it still brings me immense joy and peace. My love and respect for the natural world is a reflection of the love and respect I have for myself. I understand we are nature. I’ve found peace and happiness in simple pleasures…a sunset swim, a nice cup of tea, sitting by a fire, or a walk through wildflowers. I am content to be alone in the quiet of nature observing and breathing it all in. It inspires my creativity and zest for life. And I appreciate people who can be comfortable in silence together rather than feeling the need to fill the space with small talk. As you can see in this pic from the beautiful Järvisydän I love a good sauna. It’s an instant mood soother. There’s just something so invigorating about sweating it out and then jumping into the icy cold lake. I will forever be on a journey to discover more about myself, the Finnish keys to happiness and mastering that Finnish state of mind.
