私がフォスコ・マライーニ先生の作品に出会ったのは、日本との繋がりが薄れつつあると感じていた、人生の重要な時期でした。

マライーニ先生の様々な本を読みながら、私は日本についてほとんど何も知らないことに気づかされました。

そもそも自分自身についても、もっと学ぶ必要がある事が明らかになりました。

調査、勉強、権利の交渉で約2年かかりましたが、やっとの思いで、マライーニ先生の生涯を漫画として描ける、名誉と特権を得ることができました。

第ニ次世界大戦末期、
マライーニ先生と妻のトパツィア、
娘の3人とともに愛知県内の施設に強制収容された話です。

私にとって、このプロジェクトに取り組む事は、文化的な向上だけでなく、自分自身の事を見つめ直すことになったスピリチュアルな旅でもありました。

この漫画を読んでくださる方々に、
私の想いを伝えることができれば嬉しく思います。

I came across Fosco Maraini’s work late, but at a crucial point in my life when I was feeling that the love and interest which brought me here to Japan, was starting to fade away. Through his words I realised how little I knew about this country and how much I needed to learn about myself in the first place.

It took me two years between researching, studying and negotiating the rights to develop it, but I was eventually given the honor and privilege to adapt to manga the life story of Fosco Maraini, who together with his wife Topazia Alliata and their three children Dacia, Yuki and Toni, were interned in a prison camp near Nagoya during WWII.

Working on this project has been not only a culturally improving experience for me, but also a spiritual journey that reshaped me.

I hope I can channel my feelings to those of you who will read the manga.
