In a perfect world the animals would have no need or want from us apart from companionship if they chose, and all of their survival needs could be met on their own. The generosity or kindness of humans would be irrelevant in a perfect world. Instead, every waking day we are proven the failings of humans is a painful reality that seems only the few take seriously. In my 20+ years as an animal rights activist it never ceases to amaze me the spectrum of people who make up our communities. On one end you have senseless cruelty and lack of education- and on the other you have The Animal Recuse Mission, and others like them. My support of ARM is rooted in my admiration for the grassroots community and it’s ability to work alongside one another to give even that one dog, one cat, one life- the chance for safety and happiness. At the end of the day, how can the things that we seek, not be the very same things that all life seek. With that said, it is impossible to understate the importance of the work being done to protect our defenseless companions.
