« Returning to the London catwalk for their second season,PAUL & JOE pay tribute to the late English political activist Emmeline Pankhurst. The Autumn /Winter 2022 women’s collection asserts ultra-independence, combining femininity with a sense of “gentlefarmer".
Founder and designer Sophie Méchaly liberates the modern day "suffragette” by offering a sustainable and functional wardrobe, as modest and luxurious as it is casual. Tweeds and corduroy are tailored into signature PAUL & JOE suiting, tulle is hand-embroidered and taffeta ruffled and voluminous. The collection features rhinestone feathers and silks printed with drawings by painter Zoe Hawk; her work addressing the complex experience of womanhood, feminine identity and belonging. Blouses are enhanced by dignified collars and mutton sleeves,with dresses, jackets and coats inspired by bold vintage cutsbut with a modern twist, anchoring the designs into the present. PAUL & JOE was founded in 1995, originally starting as a menswear collection. Autumn / Winter 2022 celebrates the return of the menswear line. By entrusting the artistic direction to her son, Adrien Albou, designer Sophie Méchaly safeguards the brands communication and legacy.
