In Japan, it has been considered as the place where god resides in, so people have revered it which symbolizes longevity and celebration from long times. Azuma selected specific pine trees from varieties of them which are available in Japan and used “Japanese Red Pine”, “Japanese Black Pine”, ”Japanese White Pine”, “Yeddo (Japanese) Spruce”, and “Pinus Iuchuensis”. This artwork is created by pasting barks from the five different kinds of pine trees, and he accomplished making one “Five-Colored Pine” which was made by varieties of pines with five different colors. While maintaining the formative art which represents organic and complicated beauty of a tree itself which humans can not create, Azuma formed a new “tree” by combining shapes which do not exist in nature.
