Nastassja: How does the concept of home play a role in the narrative of your work? ⁣
⁣
Avery: I think about home as a physical place and also a psychological space. The best home is one where you can relax and nurture every version of yourself. I view the state of being “at home” as having the space and capacity to experience pleasure and joy. Home also shows up in the materials and practices I use, like textiles, yarn and collage. They engage with the world of craft and are often associated with the domestic space. I am also interested in drawings and paintings that depict interior spaces. So conceptually and materially, concepts of home and belonging are at the center of my work. ⁣
