Happy Year of the Ox(ford) 😉 But in all seriousness, the whole GV team wishes a very happy Chinese New Year to all who are celebrating. Since 2012 we’ve had the pleasure of our offices being located in NYC’s Chinatown, a neighborhood we’ve grown to love more year after year. But the 2021 lunar new year feels different than in years past. It’s no secret that Chinatown has taken a huge economic toll without its usual tourists or commuters, and many businesses have unfortunately shuttered indefinitely. To that end, we ask that you join us in supporting locally-owned Chinatown businesses in any way you can. Give them a shout-out on social media, tell your friends, or stop by to purchase something. Below are some lesser-known businesses that we love visiting on lunch breaks and after work.
.
@yiwanmen located at 150 Mott St. has an incredible assortment of noodle soups, boas, and Chinese crepes, and we find ourselves getting lunch here multiple times a week!
.
Big Wong, located at 67 Mott St., is one of our favorite spots for savory BBQ meats and other Cantonese delights.
.
Kong Wah Bakery, located at 210 Grand St., is a treasure trove of sponge cakes, buns, pies, and rolls. We still haven’t found a place with more variety or better prices.
.
Tasty Dumpling, located at 42 Mulberry St., is a true Chinatown dumpling juggernaut. We like to buy their frozen dumplings to take home and make ourselves.
