WEAVING MAGIC. Presiding over the living room at my Malibu home is this wall-mounted piece by one of my favorite artists, Sheila Hicks. Her wonderful experiments with materials and weaving result in tactile freestanding and relief sculptures, and have made her a pioneer of American textile art.

This particular work comprises tightly bound strands that create a ribbed effect reminiscent of a seashell, and the earthy tones blend perfectly with the warm woods in the room. Ideally suited to my sunny seaside abode. XK
