Then I landed in Indonesia and discovered a true world of Batik making which is an ancient skill that has been added to UNESCOs Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The heritage of Indonesian Batik has been internationally recognised as a historical fabric of human civilisation. It is thought to be over 1000 years old. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are a few batik methods, from stamping natural dyed patterns onto cloth or screen printing them but the most complex and artistic is Batik Tulis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Batik tulis — literally translates as “written batik” The fabric is written by hand as motifs or textures.
