And through its leafy fronds the sun filters through, warm and benevolent, just like the surrounding land.⁠ And while he was sheltering there, the young Giovanni G. notices a rather odd branch, which doesn’t seem to be rustling in the familiar north-easterly wind. When Giovanni G. sees the branch leave its leafy home and snake off across the meadow, he instinctively runs after it, to find out what it’s up to and where it’s going. He sees the branch sneak in through the half-closed door of a little workshop above which is a sign which reads “Friulian Wicker-working Company”. Curious to know what’s going on, Giovanni G. peeks inside the workshop just in time to see the skilled hands of the artisans starting to turn that willow branch into panniers, baskets and other beautiful objects with curvy shapes.⁠ Only the greatest visionaries understand the real value of magic and are able to transform that magic into something real. Giovanni G. doesn’t waste any time and turns that little workshop into a modern, cutting-edge factory. He takes on more workers, installs new machinery and sources more raw materials. As well as wicker they start working reeds and the versatile rattan. They start moving away from simple basketwork and start making “furniture for outdoor winter gardens, reading rooms, smoking rooms for hotels, clubs, bathing establishments and ships”, first for the north of Italy alone, then for the whole country and later for foreign markets, too. ⁠ And now it’s 1892.
