Vice President–elect @KamalaHarris's parents, Gopalan and Donald Harris, a Jamaican-born professor emeritus of economics at Stanford, met as young graduate students in the civil rights movement at the University of California, Berkeley. “I always joke about being in a stroller at that moment,” she says about the fight for justice that still carries on today. From a young age, Harris was surrounded by politically-involved adults—it became part of the foundation for her bright, history-making future.

It can’t be about trying to please everybody or prove to certain people you’re good enough for the job. And the vice president wouldn’t be where she is today if she let that kind of thing get to her.”
