Sylvia Rivera was a transgender woman living in New York City during the ’60s and ’70s. She became a fierce defender of LGBTQ+ rights, pushing the movement in the aftermath of the Stonewall riots to vigilantly protect transgender people’s rights.
A collaboration between our museum and the @slc_latino, the Latinas Talk Latinas series explores the stories of 10 Latinas as told by curators, scientists, and educators across the @スミソニアン博物館.
Are you an educator interested in bringing Rivera's story into your classroom? Follow the link in our bio to find a Learning Lab collection via Smithsonian Education that can help: https://s.si.edu/39eJpnB
