It was a case of art imitating life imitating art, or something like that, when Sarah Jessica Parker—arguably best known for a role that celebrated fashion, style, New York, and above all, very expensive shoes—decided to design her own under the label SJP, but it was something entirely else that drew her to Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of Tome. “It was the most organic, simple thing,” Lobo said on Wednesday of the small clutch of single-sole pointed-toe pumps in turquoise, Twilight (a deep navy-black), Olivine (a deep khaki/olive), and a ruddy shade of Poppy that Parker created for their fall collection. “And that’s what a great collaboration is, honestly,” Martin added, “when it’s just easy and straightforward and everybody wants to do it. It was a pleasure.” Plus, noted Lobo, pointing out each silk faille shoe’s contrasting color stripe up the heel (a brand trademark), “they’re really good shoes!” . The choice of a fleet of Parker’s colorful SJPs (available via Moda Operandi immediately following Thursday’s runway show) was something of a no-brainer for Lobo and Martin, who’ve long celebrated (and dressed) the powerful, interesting women who inspire their designs. “I’ve personally been obsessed with her since L.A. Story—though some might cite Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, it was L.A. Story for me—and out of all of the quintessentially iconic New Yorkers, she’s gotta be up there with the best,” said Lobo. “Not only is she an actor that we respect and a woman that we respect, she has this incredible fashion legacy as well, and now the shoe line . . . . She’s so much like all of the women who have influenced our collection, when you talk about dedication and work ethic, you know, you have three kids, you have a film career, and now you have a shoe collection, like what?
