This week’s #WCW is none other than the phenomenal Kate Sessions. Sessions was amongst one of the first women allowed into U.C. Berkley – where she earned her degree in natural science. But, she had bigger plans... In 1892, she struck a deal with San Diego to lease 32 acres for a nursery that would later become Balboa Park. At the time, it was little more than a scrub-filled mesa. In exchange, she offered to plant 100 trees a year in the park and donate 300 more around the city. She traveled the world to bring this unique ecosystem to life that continues to thrive to this day.
