Documentary Recommendation!! 🙌🏼🎥 Have you seen My Octopus Teacher yet? I think this is my favourite film of the year. 🐙🐙🐙

I’ve always loved swimming in the ocean. There’s something about holding your breath and going under that’s like entering another planet. The gentle crackle of shells rubbing against one another, the way the light dances and refracts through the water and the otherworldly creatures that live there. In many ways the ocean is the last great wilderness on earth.

In this beautiful documentary the filmmakers bring this world to life. My Octopus Teacher tells the moving story of how Craig Foster came to befriend and octopus over the course of a year. The filmmakers capture this underwater world through stunning cinematography and masterful editing - no easy feat given that much of the footage was recorded whilst the filmmaker held his breath.

Whilst on the surface the film is a traditional love story between Craig and this incredible creature, there is a much larger narrative at play; one that questions our perception of animals and hints at an intelligence beyond our perception. I couldn’t reccomend this film more highly!! 🤙🏼🙏🏼
