Months before Prince disbanded @therevolution, he had already started scoping out potential new collaborators, and Levi was one of the musicians who logged long hours in the studio with Prince in early January 1986 jamming on what would be referred to as "The Flesh Sessions." By the end of the year, Levi would be invited to join Prince's new band and begin rigorous rehearsals for the Sign O' The Times Tour. As Levi remembers, Prince had high expectations for his new group. “He used to say, ‘If you’re not a genius, write it down,’ ” he says, chuckling. “Another time he said, ‘I might forget what I told you to play, but I will remember that I told you to play something, so I need you to take responsibility for that.’” Levi played bass on the Sign O' The Times Tour, complementing rhythm guitarist Miko Weaver and Prince on lead guitar. As the Sign O' The Times band evolved through the late '80s, Levi would switch to guitar and become a founding member of the New Power Generation. "Prince was always way ahead of everybody else, and so the New Power Generation thing, I think he was actually playing around with that idea maybe two or three years before we became his band.
