My first baby mama Karla James and I were together for 10 years, 1990 to 2000. Although we butted heads over the years. We always stayed close. When I moved to Austin 10 years ago, she followed me to be close to the kids. Now our 30 year relationship is entering all new phase. A couple weeks ago Karla was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers and dementia. It’s really hard for me to talk about this(probably why I’m writing these words). It’s hard because Karla has always been that strong, tough as nails, tall blonde in my life. I don’t want to imagine her in any other way. I’ve made the decision with My daughters Chandler & Sunny to move Karla into the guest house on our property. This way we can all be around her and give her love and everything she needs(and dogs). All this is happening pretty fast and I couldn’t even imagine putting her in a nursing home. To me those are just junk yards for people. Right now she is happy and comfortable and that’s a good thing. We are also doing a lot of research on Alzheimers, trying to figure out the best path forward for her. I should also mention my girl Jess ( @hellocalamityjane ) has been really cool with an open heart through all of this. I’ve been praying so much for things. I’ve also realized in the last couple weeks that family really is number one in life. Especially in tough times. Karla is an orphan that spent her whole childhood in foster care. So Chandler, Jesse Jr, Sunny and Myself, are all she has in this world. We are her family, and we are keeping her close. If anyone has some resources or tips on Alzheimers please message me.
