It was a dark time in my life. I didn’t choose the bay by choice. My parents couldn’t control me so they put the responsibility on my brother who was trying to start his life. That decision by my parents forever ruined my relationship with my brother. He went from being my idol to someone I despised and it wasn’t even his fault. I went from being in every So Cal newspaper every week for playing football and being all city & all state to getting kicked out of school. And in the 80’s that was RARE for an Asian. So I was moved to this small town called Albany. My HS had 700 students and my only positive memory I had was guarding Jason Kidd, I also my first dunk on a regulation rim in Albany. I entered that small town minded school with a heavy boulder on my shoulder and the battle began. My brother tried to teach me how to be humble, but that just wasn’t me. I had no friends, so I got a job at Burger King(making $3.75 an hour) and I’d use the money to cop CD’s and I’d ride the Bart into the city to take my mind off things. I was still able to get a full scholarship to a D1 school, but it was in the bay. I wanted to get back to LA. BAD. I was even willing to walk onto UCLA’s team but I couldn’t get in. After redshirting at Cal. My DB coach left to go across the bridge to coach at SF State and they had a film school, so I transferred. As soon as I was done with school I headed back to LA and the rest is history. I hustled my ass off and knew I would become successful one day and I knew it had to be in LA. Of course I love LA, but now that I could afford to live in any city in the world, I couldn’t think of another city I’d want to live in and raise my kids in other than San Francisco. And I hope to retire in SF soon. I’ve been living part time in SF for the last 3 years. The first pic above is me outside my old apt in Albany; it’s perplexing to see how far I’ve come from that time & place. I decided to do my BBDTC box’s in the bay first because it’s a special place to me. Thank you all for your support. 🙏🏼🧡💚」10月5日 1時25分 - benballer
