Developed as Mazda’s "Multi-purpose Vehicle”, the first-generation Mazda MPV stood exactly for what it was. It was a new minivan with an ability to seat many passengers with ease of ingress/egress secured by lowering the vehicle height. Inside the car, Mazda created a space for passengers seated in the first to the third row to freely walk in-between the seats. Powered by 3.0L V6 engine, the Mazda MPV was also known to deliver confidence-boosting driving and became a sales success in the North American market where the vehicle was launched in 1988 ahead of its home market.
