In addition to claiming almost a million lives, #Covid-19 has caused a major global economic crisis. What it means, in part, is that low-skilled workers, documented and undocumented migrant workers, as well as workers in the informal and service economies have become even more vulnerable to human trafficking and labor exploitation. In India, where our partner Jeevika Free is working to free and educate bonded laborers, the pandemic has had severe consequences on the informal sector. For bonded laborers, the absence of work means that they can potentially fall deeper into debt bondage.
