These photos are from this week eight years ago, showcasing with Fashion Palette at New York Fashion Week, 2O12. ⠀

I hand crafted these couture pieces while sitting on the floor of my apartment, I would work on them from 7pm-4am for more nights than I can remember. ⠀

Creating them was an ode to strong and resilient women everywhere. The meticulously constructed breastplates - each taking weeks to construct - were drawn from the inspiration of armour for the feminine; Strong and beautiful, intricate but powerful.⠀

I finished the last piece the morning of the show. Each costume was on a dressmakers form in my apartment. With them all lined up, sparkling and silent, it was like there was an army of Marvels most glamorous 🦹🏽 awaiting assignment in my downtown, one bedroom loft. ⠀

Any work I would create - bespoke or commercial - I did so from the depths of fairytales and myths, the imaginary and the divine realms. It was complete escapism of mind and spirit to visit those worlds to create and then to bring what I found there into life in this one.⠀

The art of storytelling has forever been the base of my work and it’s lovely to revisit this particular one today. ⠀

Wanted to share it with you in the instance you’re creating something at the moment that you might feel is a bit too ‘out there’ or maybe it’s not like what everyone else is doing. If that’s the case, it’s for that very reason you must put it ‘out there’.⠀
