Being a celebrity gets you these covers reserved for Hollywood stars rather than the real heroes of the pandemic - frontline and essential workers. So I am truly dismayed and disheartened that it took the assasination of #BreonnaTaylor, an awarded EMT, during a pandemic (by cops who then covered it up with other cops and then state cops failed to prosecute) to turn her into a celebrity and land her these two coveted and celebrated celebrity covers. How much more Black Death and Pain is necessary to celebrate #BLACKWOMEN? Despite this I still applaud @tanehisipcoates and @oprah for these bold covers, and for the art and activism issue of #VanityFair I’m excited people are making space, but after how long and what cost?! Why did it take the movement behind the death of so many black and brown people including #breonnataylor for celebrated Oscar winning actor @violadavis to grace the cover of @vanityfair ?
