When the humpbacks aren’t interesting in being friendly with the boats, they’ve been busy being hungry. Every year in Monterey Bay, late July through September seems to produce the most amount of feeding frenzies as the anchovies crowd the bay and the predators follow. I’ve always loved the moment when the fish start bubbling at the surface, which signals the eruption of a gargantuan whale head rocketing out of the sea. There aren’t many animals on the planet that put on a better show feeding than humpback whales. @sanctuarycruises
