We were meant to meet on Saturday, but now on the very same day, it will be a farewell. I am still in deep shock. Words fail me now but tried my best  In Loving Memory of R💐   She was such a pure, kindred spirit. We were fundamentally alike, something we only realised a few years back. She and our tight-knit group welcomed me when I came to Tokyo Uni as an exchange student. Those were glorious times. Possibly the happiest year of my life. That’s perhaps part of the reason why I was never able to talk about my mental health issues with anyone. Being in Japan makes talking about this even harder.   That time a few years back when I bumped into R  randomly in Yokohama, that was when we both realised we were so alike. I only wished we were able to talk more, see more of each other since. The last time we met was last year in June in a happy environment again with our tight-knit bunch. Covid happened, two Zoom catch ups. It wasn’t enough. It will never be enough.   We shared the same favourite film ‘Dead Poet’s Society’. Carpe Diem. Seizing the day and living life without regrets seem very different things. It will be virtually impossible to live a life devoid of regret. I wish I could’ve talked to her more, especially because we knew where each other were coming from. But trying too hard to live without regrets is another stressful matter. We may not be able to do everything to our hearts content in the time we’d ideally want to. But we can try to be just that bit happier, make someone else’s day a bit brighter.  Nothing will unfortunately bring her back. Time will not heal the wounds. But I will remember her, cherish our memories. While the pain will not subside, some things are clearer - reach out to your loved ones. Listen to them. A random call, text, meeting, not only during birthdays and celebrations. No matter how busy you are (easier said then done I know), make time to do the things you love, share it with those you love.
