It takes some moments to figure out what’s going on in the photograph and when the ⠀ unmistakable form of the towers’ jagged bases reveal themselves and you realise where you’re standing and what you’re seeing the wave of emotion is astonishing. Sean’s photo tells the story of 9/11 in such a simple yet overwhelming way - the scale of the horror represented in the smallest of things: a shelf of ordinary shirts.⠀ ⠀ I was in New York less than a week after 9/11. I stayed in SoHo, just one block from the police line blocking access to the southern end of the island. My room had uninterrupted views south and night and day I watched the smoke rising from the wreckage of the towers and looked down into the trucks taking debris away from the site as they drove by on Canal Street full of who-knows-what.
