This holiday commemorates the day when Black Americans in the last of the Confederate States (Texas), were notified of both the end of the civil war and slavery. Though Black Americans were legally freed when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 by president Abrahamn Lincoln, it took over 2 years for word to spread through the South. In honor of Juneteenth, we will be highlighting Black creatives and small businesses.
