#FaithRinggold’s “American People Series” confronts race relations in the United States in the 1960s; this work, the mural-scale painting that concluded the series, evokes the racial unrest that was erupting around the country. “The first time I saw it, it flattened me with its truthfulness and honesty and also for how much love was needed to endure its making,” poet Crystal Williams told #MoMAMagazine.
At the link in our bio, learn more about the monumental work and read Williams’s poem inspired by it, “Elegy for Us,” as part of our #MoMAVirtualViews.
