Hattatsu Mairi is a custom that takes place on the first day of the dragon each month. For this event, worshippers visit Tanekashisha, Nankunsha, Asazawasha and Otoshisha shrines - in that order - to pray for prosperity in business and safety at home. First, they pray for the procurement of capital necessary in business at Tanekashisha, which is the shrine presiding over seeds. Tanekashisha is also a venerated site for the conception of children, as its god is known as the bestower of seeds. Next, visitors head to Nankunsha to encourage the growth of these seeds. This is the central shrine for Hattatsu Mairi, fondly referred to as ‘Hattatsu-san.’ This shrine has been devotedly worshipped by those engaged in business from long ago. Last, worshippers head to Asazawasha and Otoshisha shrines - the latter being home to the god of the harvest - to give thanks for collecting money. This pilgrimage was not started by our shrine, but rather was naturally born from the common folk themselves. Tanikashi-san provides capital and Hattatsu-san is where worshippers go to pray for prosperity in business.
