It’s not glamorous, it’s serious hard labour but possibly one of the most exciting and mind opening visits I have done. The locals sleep, eat and work in their workshops sorting through piles of rocks, slicing them up searching for the precious unique stones that we buy off the shelf without thought of how, what, where. These rocks are sold to big gem dealers across the world to flog at mineral trade shows, westerners hardly ever come to this source and most have no clue where their gems come from or how they are processed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Having had the opportunity to visit these workshops / homes, sort and find my own gems and have them custom cut them has been a milestone for our transparency policy.
